I just read several wonderful new posts over at Shaman UK. (www.shaman.uk.net)
The one that struck me the most was on making drums. The author believes each drum is a living thing, with its own unique spirit. I agree.
Further, I believe this is true of all musical instruments.
I own a 1966 tenor saxophone I call Bello, and a beautiful 2005 Fender Stratocaster I call Rosie, and a little Bluesband C harmonica I call Pan. I feel a strong connection to Spirit when I play them. It's another language, one I love learning.
I love taking Bello outdoors on beautiful days, and together we celebrate the beauty of my favorite places in nature, or sing the city to sleep on Summer evenings.
Rosie and I play most often when Winter keeps me indoors, and the ordinary world is wearying.
Pan joins me in the quiet hours at work at night when nothing is happening, or on the ride home on tired mornings. He rides in my pocket.
Someday, they'll have a drum brother that walks with us between worlds.
Thank you for reading.
